79/5528 Monogrammist "GDW" (2nd half 16th cent.). (Acts of the Apostles). Eight (of 20) engravings after RAPHAEL, each ±10,8x15,4 cm., monogrammed "GDW" (1x).

= (Very) rare. Part of a set of 20 prints depicting the Acts of the Apostles. The print collection of Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden holds a numbered set, contrary to the prints above, which suggest that these engravings are a first or earlier state. Hollstein XIII, p.36, 8 (The Ascension of Christ) and probably Hollstein 3 (Liberation of St. Peter) are part of the series; Nagler 2882. GDW is identified as a print artist from Brussels. There is also a slight possibility that the monogram stands for Giovanni da Udine (who was part of Raphael's workshop).
