= Rare set of picture postcards that were published by Meulenhoff (Amsterdam) on occasion of Dreyfus' departure from l'Ile du Diable on the 9th of June 1899, for his retrial in France. The three postcards all have 2-lines of letterpress printed in red on the address side reading: "Refusée par la poste française./ Envoyée d'Amsterdam le 8 Juin 1899." It seems that these cards were published in the Netherlands in protest against the treatment of Dreyfus; two of the three postcards have a letterpress line on the frontside reading: "Cayenne, date du départ de Dreyfus." They show the following scenes: 1.Two sketches "dessiné à l'Ile du Diable le 29. 7bre 1898 Jean Hess" of the "poste des gardiens" and "La prison derrière la palinade"; 2. The portraits of Emile Zola, G. Pecquart and Labori; 3. A portrait of Dreyfus, and facsimiles of the handwriting of Dreyfus, the handwriting that was used as proof of Dreyfus' guilt and Dreyfus' signature. Very rare set of postcards.
