= Second edition of the series of public lectures on diseases of the eye (first lectured in 1701, first published after his death in 1746), Boerhaave describes its diseases and their treatments. It is held to have laid the foundation for practical ophthalmology in the 18th century. Provenance: the collection of G.A. Lindeboom w. his bookplate on upper pastedown. Source Book of Ophthalmology 256; Lindeboom 398: "For this second edition, adapted by Von Haller with the aid of his pupil Christian Ludwich Willich (Nordheim), a much more extensive dictation of Laurentius Heister was used. In the preface Haller urges the reader not to consult the editions appearing at Paris and Venice any longer"; Hertzberger 192.
