Grondman p.93/95: "De 'Overhaal bij het Rijksmuseum' kan (...) tot de vroeg te dateren etsen gerekend worden (...). Van de 'Overhaal' zijn overigens twee verschillende formaten bekend. Het gaat in beide gevallen om dezelfde plaat. Deze werd echter door een brand in 1928 bij Meijers toenmalige drukker, de NV Plaatdrukkerij Roelofs en Hubner, zodanig beschadigd dat alle randen afgesneden moesten worden."

= The 9 works, each ±29x21 cm., show various interpretations of the microscope (which is assembled in a compartment of the frame): (1) a realistic pencil sketch; (2) a rough pencil sketch of the shape; (3) a pencil sketch of a man smoking a cigarette in the shape of the microscope; (4) a more detailed sketch of the same man; (5) an original linocut plate of the man; (6) a second original linocut plate of the man; (7) a print in grey of the second linocut plate; (8) a print in black of the first linocut plate; (9) a finished print in black and grey of both linocut plates together.
