= Interesting and amusing letter on a proposed modernising of Dutch spelling. "(...) De bedoelde spelling-opstellen wil ik bij gelegenheid gaarne lezen. Ik mag u geen hoop geven dat u me tot de lik-beweging zult overhalen, want de uitkomst is eenvoudig horribel leelijk, en dat zegt genoeg. Uw scherpzinnigste redeneeringen kunnen dat niet veranderen, aangezien theorie ondergeschikt blijft aan gevoel. (...) Een woord, met zijn spelling is een kostbaar, zelf gegroeid ding; Elke willekeurige, opzettelijke, theoretische verandering, niet gebaseerd op gevoel en smaak, maar op onderwijs-belangen of redeneering, is verminking en vandalisme. (...) Ik geef u inderdaad volkomen vrijheid te spreken van "de nederlanse naassie" (...)
