= Interesting letters, i.a. concerning everyday events, publishing of new work and content-related debate, among which corrections for Dood Weermiddel, the debut collection of short stories by Hotz. This collection of letters provides a good insight into the daily issues that play out between a writer and his publisher. For instance, in an undated letter Hotz asks: "Ik kreeg het verzoek van Henk van Does om mee te doen met zo iets als een Leids schrijvers collectief, die een boek bij elkaar gaan schrijven dat door u uitgegeven zou worden. Ik heb ja gezegd, maar weet -deze weken besluitelozer dan ooit- bij god niet wat in te zenden. Ik wilde uw hulp inroepen." Hotz writes: "Hierbij met aarzeling twee verhalen. "Een laatste Oordeel" is van '75. Zelf vind ik het begin wel goed, maar het verhaal wordt later misschien o.a. te babbelig (veel dialoog ligt me eigenlijk niet) en te weinig verhullend(?) (...) of jij een mogelijkheid ziet dit verhaal te verbeteren." (14-04-1977). These letters point out how openly Hotz doubts titles, textual choices in his writings and he asks Sontrop for constant help in these matters. Strong criticism is occasionally not shied away from: "Je ziet het gaat niet te vlot met de schrijverij. Bovendien hoorde ik vanmorgen van Anton Korteweg (telefonisch) dat hij m'n muziekverhaal (57 blz. AP papier) slecht vond en rommelig. Hij heeft gelijk!" (?-05-1979). Some letters show influences in Hotz his writing: "Hierbij een nieuw verhaal. Het mooie verhaal van Ann Beattie, dat je me onlangs toestuurde (uit de New Yorker, meen ik) bracht me op het idee dat een mysterie binnen een verhaal niet beslist verklaard hoeft te worden aan het slot. Althans niet kant en klaar uitgelegd" (03-07-1985). The letters were published in Geniaal is niet direct het woord - Brieven aan Theo Sontrop, ed. by J.P. Hinrichs (The Hague, Statenhofpers, 2019).

= Complete run of this rare clandestine series by publisher Boris Rousseeuw, comprising original texts such as often unpublished letters, speeches or articles. Represented authors are i.a. E. du Perron, G. Reve, J. Brouwers, T. Lanoye, K. van het Reve, H. Claus, W. Elsschot, E. Claes, L.P. Boon and G. Komrij. The series elicited negative reactions from the original authors. Jeroen Brouwers wrote in a letter to Hans Roest (27-05-1983): "Ik vernam van Huyer het bestaan van de tweede? of de zoveelste piratenuitgaaf van iets van Jeroen Brouwers, Vaart allen wel - eveneens bij Het Kanon. Deze zou 3 televisiekritieken van mij bevatten in 1970 geschreven voor de Vlaamse 'Panorama'. Ik ben met dat hele piratengedoe verre van blij.
