= Van Sinderen p.278: "Max Natkiel liep al aardig tegen de veertig toen hij in 1980 besloot om van zijn jarenlange wekelijkse bezoek aan poppodium Paradiso in Amsterdam een wat zinvoller tijdspassering te maken. Met een oude Rolleiflex van zijn vader ging hij medebezoekers portretteren. Hij fotografeerde ze niet sfeervol al pogoënd op de vloer of pratende aan de bar, maar afzonderlijk bij de toiletten in kil vooraanzicht en meedogenloos flitslicht. Tussen 1980 en 1985 maakte Natkiel op deze manier meer dan 5000 opnames, waarvan een kleine selectie in 1986 werd uitgegeven in het boek Paradiso Stills. (...) Het feit dat Natkiels serie al na twintig jaar als een interessant historisch document wordt beschouwd, ligt deels aan de inhoud (modetrends zijn al gauw historie) en voor het overige aan de uitzonderlijke ziens- en werkwijze van de fotograaf. (...) Natkiel werd gefascineerd door 'heavy' jongeren, niet door het gemiddelde poppubliek dat Paradiso het vaakst frequenteert." SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LVI.
