Poortman I, p.61-63; "De vertaling die alleen een gedeelte van het Oude Testament en de Apocriefe boeken bevat, is in verglijking met de vertaling van 1477 een grote stap terug naar de vroege middeleeuwen, naar de Rijmbijbel van Van Maerlant en de Historiebijbel van 1360. (...) Den Bibel (...) is eigenlijk geen bijbel, maar een naïef volksboek, geheel in de trant van de volksboeken van die tijd. Er is geen indeling in boeken en de bijbeltekst gaat verloren tussen allerlei vreemdsoortige verhalen." = Darlow/ Moule 3280 note; Delaveau/ Hillard 1170; Poortman I, p.83: "In 1542 kwam de laatste en beste druk uit van de Liesveldtbijbel. Het is een vertaling van de gehele Lutherbijbel, terwijl ook de volledige kanttekeningen van Luther zijn overgenomen. (...) Van deze uitgave van 3 juni 1542 bestaan twee drukken." As a result of (re)printing this edition, Van Liesveldt was convicted and beheaded by the Spanish Inquisition in 1545. = Darlow/ Moule 3287; Poortman I, p.122-124. Very rare first edition of the "Leuvense bijbel", translated from the Vulgate by Nicolaes van Winghe. "The frame to the title and the woodcuts in the text are like those used in W. Vorsterman's Bible of 1542." (Darlow/ Moule). "De theologen aan de hogeschool van Leuven kregen de opdracht van de landsregering een nieuwe Latijnse tekst van de Vulgaat gereed te maken. Nicolaes van Winghe, regulier kanunnik van het Augustijner klooster te Leuven, werd belast met de vertaling van de Vulgaat in het Nederduits, d.w.z. in het Brabants. In de voorrede wijst Nicolaas van Winghe er op, dat er vele valse bijbels vol met fouten waren verschenen, en dat het doel van zijn uitgave was 'valsche en incorrecte Bibelen uytter lieden handen te nemen'. Deze bijbel moest dus de plaats innemen van de Liesveldt- en de Vorstermanbijbel, die door vele Katholieken werden gelezen." (Poortman). On the very rare map: Poortman/ Augusteijn, p.63-66.
