The plan shows the erosion that occurred between 1686 and 1718 and the dikes built to prevent further loss of land and to save the church, its tower now with its front directly on the beach. Unfortunately, however, these dikes could not prevent the entire church and 36 houses from being swallowed by the sea during a December storm in 1741.
