Labat, Gustave (1824-1917). (Rowing boats on the beach). Drawing, pen and ink and watercolour, 14,5x24,5 cm., signed "Gustave Labat" and "9 Juillet 1912" in lower right corner, under passepartout.
- Sl. yellowed; stain in outer left margin.
AND an anonymous 19th cent. black wash drawing (Man and child walking in a forest) (34x26,8 cm. Some marginal defects) and a brush and black ink drawing by Dirk Kerst KOOPMAN, "Scheene".
- Sl. agetoned, otherwise fine.
= On thin laid paper. Hollstein 1, the 2nd state (of 2). One of only five etchings known by Verboom, follower of Ruisdael.

= Rare and amusing print showing the inconvenience of wearing a wig whilst riding a horse. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXXIII.
- All w. ample margins; occas. (sl.) yellowed/ trifle frayed/ trifle waterst. in blank margins; 1x browned and creased; 1x w. closed tear in centre.
= Comprises i.a. the ports of Languedoc, Marseille and Toulon. Under the title "peintre des marines de sa majesté", Vernet was commissioned by Louis XV in 1753 to paint fifteen views of the main ports of France. At that time the country was at war with England, and Louis specifically requested that the artist show off the economic activities and maritime strength of France. This rare series of engravings was created after those paintings. Despite its incompleteness, a desirable set. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXXIII.
