= Carl Hagenbeck (1844-1913), son of a fishmonger, was a trader in exotic animals for zoos and circuses. He opened his own zoo in Hamburg-Stellingen in 1907. His nephew Willy Hagenbeck (1884-1965) founded his eponymous circus in Hamburg in 1914.
