2231 - 2341 MANUSCRIPTS, AUTOGRAPHS, DOCUMENTS
= The reports, written by different hands, give an interesting account of the visit to Breda of emperor Napoleon. On the 6th of May he visited the city during his tour of Holland with his second wife, 20 year old Maria Louise of Austria, his brother Jeròme, king of Westfalen and his stepson Eugène de Beauharnais.

= With the signatures of i.a. actors Robert Taylor, Gary Cooper, Alan Marshall, Richard Greene and Conny (Froboess,) singer Josée Sann, dancer Harald Kreutzberg, and musicians Jehudi Menuhin, Marie Thérèse Fourneau, Jo Vincent, Shlomo Mintz, Randy Newman (w. a ms. letter, dated 1994) and of jazzy dance orchestra De Ramblers, on promotional photographs/ (photogr.) picture postcards etc., some in original film studio envelope (i.a. Twentieth Century-Fox Studios). General contents: newspaper and magazine clippings, (photogr.) movie picture postcards and several promotional leaflets and programs for i.a. movies and concerts.
= Letter to "Sig[nore] il Francesco Pescia g[ran?] m[aestro?] Filippo", sent from Constantinople by an unidentified sender [Mugolele?] (illegible signature) to Genoa. The sender tries to negotiate about some trade goods, possibly fabric or paper.

= Possibly a deed of transfer of a property in "Boscoducis" (Den Bosch). The following names are mentioned: Jacobus die Witte, Johan[n]is Audenhoven, Jocobo and Johannes de Oudenhove, Henrico Bredebairt in text and Godefrida Houbraken on verso.
- One document waterstained in upper (blank) margin, sl. affecting text (but still legible).
= Contains disputes on i.a. a compulsory sale of furniture, in which the officiary is being stalled, told off and threathened by the father of the lady of whom the furniture should be sold (1604); a "twistgesprek" on religion, in which tolerance, adoration of Maria and the position of priests is being discussed (1653); a sale of a horse between Peter Kievits and Peter Teulings, in which the latter claims not to have bought the horse, but the first refuses to take the horse back (1751) and the baby of Cornelia Coesen, of which Jacque Polsma denies being the father, since he denies having had "vleeselijke conversatie" with Coesen (1755).
= "This is to thank you for your letter and to commend the noble feeling expressed therein. It gives me pleasure to send you my autograph (...)".

= Concerning disciplinary measures in the army. "J'ai mis sous les yeux du Roy, Monsieur, la lettre qui vous m'avez fait l'honneur de m'écrire le 16. du mois dernier, pour m'informer de l'insulte faite dans [?] au Régiment Royal-Comptois, en la personne d'un officier de ce Corps, par deux Lieutenans du Régiment d'Auvergne (...)". The count de Saint-Germain served as French minister of war at the time and was known for his stern attitude towards discipline.

= Comprises: Claude Anthime Corbon (1808-1891, politician and sculptor), 5 letters to "Cher monsieur", dated 1869; Léon Laurent-Pichat (1823-1886, politician and poet): 9 letters to "[Monsieur et] cher Confrère" etc., dated ±1869-1881; Jules Leroux (1805-1883, socialist politician): 1 letter to [illegible], undated; Émile Littré (1801-1881, philosopher and lexicographer): 2 letters to "Mon cher Quicherat", dated 1859; Benoît Malon (1841-1893, politician, author and communard): 5 letters on 6 lvs. to i.a. "Mon éminent et très honoré concitoyen", dated 1888-1892, on paper w. printed letterhead of "La Revue Socialiste".
AND 5 visiting cards of Édouard Vaillant (1840-1915, socialist politician, communard), all w. (AUTOGRAPH SIGNED) DEDICATION, dated 1913/ 1914.
= Contains i.a. 3 documents on a public sale in Zutphen in 1829, in which the estate "Averenk" with all its belongings and accessory properties was sold for 52400 gulden to Steven Horsting, mayor of Doetinchem, who declared that he bought the estate for "Jonkheer" Nicolaas Steengracht d'Oosterand, member of the Senate of the Dutch Parliament (1829) and a contemporary copy of a deed of transport in which Gerrit de Cock, council member of Utrecht, buys "een zeker weywaert met alle bepotinge daer op staende ende alle gerechticheyt daer toe gehorende" situated in the "kerspel" (area under the authority of a certain (parish)church) of Ingen (1644).

= Heraldic manuscript containing num. drawings of the coats of arms of the various branches of the Van Gent family. Including a photocopy of a typescript letter by Mr. Piet Beltjes, former archivist at the Rijksarchief, Arnhem, in which he explains why he has come to the conclusion that Wouter Simmers is the author of the present manuscript. The manuscript also contains a section of (13)p. titled "Vlagge Boek geschilderd voor den Ed. Hoogwelgeborene Heer de Heer Wilhelm Joseph Baron van Gend Capteijn ter See" (this refers to Wilhelm Joseph Baron van Gendt (1671-1732), the son of lieutenant-admiral Wilhelm Joseph van Gendt).
