On the remarkable quality of this print-bible see Van der Coelen p.96ff: "(...) De Tournes [bracht] versies in zes andere talen uit (...) waarvoor hij telkens andere auteurs aantrok. (...) voor de Nederlandse versie (...) Willem Borluut. (...) Weliswaar was De Tournes' werk maar iets omvangrijker dan dat van Egenolff uit 1551 (...), maar in deze laatste uitgave zijn veel onderwerpen dubbel behandeld, met houtsneden afkomstig uit verschillende reeksen. De Lyonese prentenbijbel, ontworpen door één kunstenaar, heeft een veel gelijkmatigere samenstelling. Kwalitatief staat hij bovendien boven de Frankfurter werken. Vergeleken met de maar iets oudere prentenbijbels van Egenolff en Gülfferich zette Salomon stilistisch gezien een stap vooruit. Zijn ontwerpen tonen maniëristisch verlengde figuren in harmonische groepen. De landschappen waarin ze doorgaans werden geplaatst, zijn voorzien van een rijke vegetatie, kronkelende riviertjes, golvende heuvels en antiquiserende gebouwen (...)". Rare.
