= Very interesting letter, written in response to Rudi Fuchs' essay "Peter Struycken, recente schilderijen", published in De Gids. "(...) Het is niet juist dat ik mij distancieer van onmeetbaarheden - juist zou zijn dat ik mij volledig distancieer van onervaarbaarheden. Wetmatigheid - of dat nu in de aspecten v.d. vorm of kleur gerealiseerd wordt is altijd onmeetbaar in de zin van rekenkundig of natuurkundig - al kun je er soms wel een gedeeltelijk gebruik van maken. (...) De ervaarbaarheid van de gebruikte wetmatigheden zijn voor mij de enige norm bij het beoordelen van het werkstuk. (...). In feite zijn al mijn beeldingen fragmenten van zich eindeloos voortzettende wetmatig geordende structuren. (...) Je analyse van het gebeuren van de kleur t.a.v. de vorm (...) vind ik voortreffelijk. Het is namelijk een merkwaardige eigenschap van de kleur dat zij zich op bepaalde momenten t.a.v. de begrenzing en opp. kan isoleren en deze volledig kan domineren. Het is - in de traditionele zin - een on-coloristies gebruik van kleur, de kleur wordt in feite als vorm gebruikt (...)".
