= A cartoon concerning the punishment of two orphan girls in Amsterdam in August 1879. According to contemporary sources, the two barely adult girls (and in their final year at the orphanage) who disturbed the evensong of the orphanage with deliberate loud and off key singing, were locked up. Afterwards the patrons of the orphanage punished them by cutting off their hair. A public row followed on the apparent cruel behaviour of the patrons, especially because the public considered long hair a part of their womanhood.
