= Holzmann-Bohatta III, 7056; Goedeke V, p.487,3. Becker wrote one of the most popular works of the German Enlightenment with his Noth- und Hilfs-Büchlein, which extolled the virtues of farmer's lives and their sense of neighbourly and communal duties.

= Ad 1: Van der Linde 24. The final Dutch edition of the author's main work. Bekker (1634-1698) attempted to prove that the devil is unable to exercise any influence upon the destiny of mankind. Consequently all stories about sorcery, witchcraft, ghosts and phantoms belong to the realm of fancy. The work caused a great stir and was deemed heretical by orthodox Calvinists.

= The very rare first translation into Amharic of the New Testament. Darlow/ Moule 1556: "Translated into Amharic by Abu Rumi, an Abyssinian monk, under the supervision of M. Asselin de Cherville, the French Consul at Cairo. The translation was made from the Arabic corrected by the Vulgate, with collateral help from the Hebrew, Greek and Syriac. Edited by T. P. Platt (1798-1852) (...)." The collation given by Darlow/ Moule suggests that the Latin title is absent from our copy.

= Two old owner's entries: "Lena Kramer" (on verso frontisp.) and "Louis Snabilie" (on verso engr. tiltle-p.). Extremely rare complete copy, even rarer in a contemp. dos-à-dos binding, monogrammed and dated "I.B" and "1628" on frontcover. The date of 1627 is given on two of the three divisional titles, the divisional title of the New Testament has the date of 1626 (the colophon carries the date 1627).
