- Heavily foxed.

= The drawing bears great similarities to drawings in a collection of 19 drawings attributed to Balthasar van der Ast by S. Segal in 1994. That collection was sold in The Hague by art dealer S. Nijstad. The RKD states this collection was formerly part of a large collection of 483 drawings of flowers. They were numbered in lower left and often monogrammed by Van der Ast in lower right. The collection sold by Nijstad however occas. lacks these characteristics. The lower left number is often covered by a piece of paper. Our drawings appear to be uncut at the left margin. Before Segals attribution to Balthasar van der Ast, the collection of drawings was believed to be created by Bartholomeus Assteijn (1607-1667), an apprentice of Van der Ast. On 17th century paper with coat of arms of Amsterdam watermark with initials "VG" below, which Laurentius dates as 2nd half 17th century. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LIII.
