Leaf from an unidentified work, Northern Europe, 15th cent., Latin text in black ink on vellum, littera textualis in two hands, rubricated, recto and verso in 2 columns, ±32,3x24 cm. (leaf), 24x16,5 cm. (text), one pen flourished initial.
- Some loss of ink; waterstained; a few sm. holes.
- Glosses sl. faded.
= Thirteenth century fragment from the 31st book from Justinian's Digest dealing with legacies and trusts (de Legatis et Fideiscommissis), starting and ending imperfectly in the middle of verse11 until 28.
AND another leaf from a Graduale (?), Northern Europe, 13th century, Latin text in black ink on vellum, rubricated, recto and verso, w. neumes, framed w. both sides visible.
- Two lvs. lacking upper corner; 2 opposite pages soiled.
= Probably for the use in a Cistercian environment, given the saints mentioned in red ink in the Calendar: Robert (29 Apr.), Peter (8 May), Malachi (5 Nov.) and Edmund (16 Nov.). Interestingly, Louis IX (25 Aug.) is also mentioned in red. Dated on the last leaf, but illegible due to loss of ink, possibly 1461.
- Final part (±50 lvs.) waterstained causing some ofsetting from the penwork flourishes on the opposite leaf; outer margin sl. cut short (only visible on lvs. w. penwork extending into outer margins); numbered "N.29" in pen and ink on upper pastedown in later hand. Lacks clasps; spine-ends dam.; upper joint crudely restored; sm. dam. spot on frontcover; binding worn along extremities.
= From the library of Six van Hillegom (with his bookplate on upper pastedown). Contains the 150 psalms, all numbered in pen and ink in blank margin in contemporary hand. On the pen flourishes see: Kriezels, aubergines en takkenbossen, p.70: "Kenmerkend voor deze fraaie variant van het aubergine-penwerk zijn de in cirkels gevatte gestileerde bloemen". SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXII.
- Not examined outside of frame. Verso not visible.
= The opening of Matthew 9 in which miracles of Christ are detailed. Christ heals the "bleeding woman" and raises the deceased daughter of Jairus. The left margin decoration shows a vase sprouting coloured leaves. In the centre a medaillon style portrait of a Roman (?) soldier is depicted. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXII.
= Contains the compline in the Hours of the Virgin, often accompanied by a miniature of the Flight into Egypt. Decoration to the separate hours in the day suggest this bifolium (otherwise not illuminated) was part of a richly illustrated Dutch Book of Hours. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXIII.
- Gilding and colours occas. sl. worn away; right margin cut sl. short (affecting border).
= Showing the first leaf for the Solemn Evening Mass of the Lords Supper on Holy Thursday. Given the elaborate border decoration and high quality of the miniature probably from a very richly illustrated early 15th century Parisian Missal. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXIII.

"Dagorder en afscheid van Heer L.G. Opperbevelhebber te Maastricht den 9 Dec. 1833". The other end of the book contains 83p. of manuscript math problems.
- Unidentified heraldic stamp on title; pastedowns sl. browned.
