= Dorbon-Ainé 3299; this. ed. not in Caillet (but cf. 8130 for an earlier ed. of Amst., 1679). In his 'Book of wonders', Julius Obsequens (4th century AD) recounts many curious and mysterious events that had been described in earlier sources, some of which could be interpreted as sightings of UFOs. On the binding: Spoelder 2.

= Dekkers, p.194, 2; Monté Verloren 123-129. Rare first edition of this classical work by Melchior Winhoff, "(...) door zijne geschriften voor het overijsselsche recht van de grootste beteekenis. Waar hij studeerde en den meesterstitel verwierf, is onbekend; als "magister Melchior Winhoff" is hij in 1571 (in de Acta Visitationis, 103) genoemd onder de provisors van het H.G. gasthuis te Ootmarsum. Hij was hier advocaat en in 1568 burgemeester. Nog in 1574 komt hij voor als provisor van het genoemde gasthuis, maar blijkens een acte van 1585 was hij overleden (...). Door twee omvangrijke geschriften heeft hij gepoogd het in de eerst helft der 16e eeuw in Overijssel geldende recht met eene verklaring der toen geldende bepalingen samen te stellen. Hij bewerkte hiertoe aanvankelijk het landrecht van Twenthe, op aansporen van Berndt van Schedelick, landcommandeur der Balye in Westphalen, aan wien de bewerking is opgedragen. Als schrijver van dit, Dat Landrecht van Twenthe, dient hij zich aan als Melchior then Wijnhave. Het handschrift, dat eerst in de 19e eeuw ontdekt is, werd het eerst uitgegeven door R.E. Hattink (Zwolle, 1898, Werken Ver. v. Overijss. Regt en Gesch.), die het als tusschen 1521 en 1529 geschreven beschouwt. Later heeft hij den arbeid weder opgevat en het overijsselsche recht opnieuw en uitvoeriger bewerkt, uitgegeven als: Landtrecht van Auerissel. Tho samen gebracht unde utghelecht dör Melchioren Winhoff (Deventer bij S. Steenberch 1559), opgedragen aan Johan van Ligne, graaf van Arenberg. Vooral dit geschrift heeft zeer groot gezag gekregen en een invloed geoefend, die duidelijk in de redactie van de overijsselsche codificatie van 1630 is te zien." (NNBW I, 1579/1580).

= The desirable 4to edition of the first French edition (another French edition in two 8vo vols. was also published in 1788). First published in London in 1788, it became one of the most popular books on the Pacific at the close of the 18th cent. The crew of the shipwrecked Antilope built a small boat from the wreck, with which they sailed to Macao. They took with them Prince Lee Boo (Son of King Abba Thule of the Palau Islands).
