= Interesting and attractive drawing. Temporary buildings can be seen, housing various attractions i.a. a show with scenes from the battle of Waterloo and sea battle of Algiers, a menagerie and acrobats. Also some streetvendors, i.a. a 'poffertjeskraam' near to the left. On one of the buildings to the right pamphlets and announcements are attached, i.a. for the Menagerie van Aken, which was based in Rotterdam. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXVII.

= On laid paper with French lily coat of arms and GVH monogram. With the collector's marks of D.P. Brondgeest: stamped mark on the mount (Lugt 4331) and manuscript monograms and topographical identification on verso in pencil and red pen and ink. Zuilenstein was bombed and destroyed in W.W. II.

- Most drawings in very fine condition, some with the following minor defects: some smudging; occas. trifle/ sl. foxed in outer blank margin; 2 drawings w. sm. tear in inner blank margin (not affecting the watercolour); a few lvs. fingersoiled in outer blank margin. Bookblock loose; heraldic bookplate on upper pastedown.

= The skilfully executed and beautiful drawings bear strong resemblance to the 18th and 19th century drawings of butterflies by J.C. or J. Sepp or A.J. Rösel van Rosenhof. The main focus of the drawings is on the metamorphosis of the caterpillar into the butterfly. All on paper with "J. Honig & Zoonen", "J. Kool", "De Ervens Dk Blauw", "J. Kloppenburg", "Van Gelder", a beehive w. Orange tree or the Pro Patria (2 diff. types) watermark. With a silhouette portrait drawing frontisp. of probably the original owner W.D.V. de Graaf (1762-1846), a Utrecht pharmacist. On the backstrip his name and title "Inlandsche Kapellen" are given.Came into possession of the present owner by descent. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXX.

= Nice cartoon, expressing the futuristic idea that a long distance connection by telephone could be created between the UK and Africa. The conversation between on the one hand a native African servant holding the phone for his master (who is lying in a hammock surrounded by mosquitos) and on the other hand an Englishman sleeping in London results in the complaint from Africa that his master cannot sleep because of the loud snoring of the Englishman's wife and the Englishman complaining that he cannot hear anything because of the noise that the mosquitos make. Monogrammist not traced.
