"The third volume includes discussion of hypnotysm, somnambulism and magnetism" (Garrison-Morton). The photographs were specially made for the work by the intern Paul Regnard and were so well received and useful that the board of the Salpêtrière decided to provide the neurologist Charcot with a photographic atelier. = Nissen, ZBI 678; Pivetau 150. This complete set consists of 38 parts., with the "Oiseaux" (9 vols.), the "Quadrupèdes ovipares et serpents" (2 vols.), "les Mineraux" (5 vols.) and 7 suppl. vols. Originally published Paris 1749-1804, this Dutch edition with French text was enlarged by J.N.S. Allamand, not containing the vols. on fishes and whales, which were published later. Bélidor was the first to use differential and integral equations for the solution of hydrotechnical problems.
