= From the library of M.J. O'Farrell (1832-1894), the first Bishop of Trenton (his bookplate on upper pastedowns). Compilation of short works by various Protestant theologians, mostly originally published in Germany between 1660 and 1730.

= The first edition. A Dutch edition was published one year later. Sabin 24112; Van Doorne/ Van Kempen 1943; Tiele 356; Kolfin p.37-38 and passim. Fine detailed map and interesting plates of i.a. the "beestenmolen" and the "tentboot". "One of the best books, at the time it was written, in regard to the colonies." (Sabin). = At the end the famous treatise "Een eenvoudige, dog duidelyke verklaaring over de zo genaamde onverslaanbare parnasdreun te bruilofte &c. door den autheur zelver opgestelt, alleen uit liefde en zugt voor de onbedreeve poëten en dozynwerkers van zyn gelukkig vaderland". "In het werk dat zoveel weerstand heeft opgeroepen verwerpt Van Sw. het polijsten van verzen en de onderworpenheid aan regels, principes (...). Daartegenover stelt hij inspiratie en extase. Zijn overtuiging wordt gemotiveerd door de hermetische filosofie op naam van Hermes Trismegistos, waarin lijdzame overgave en extatische terugkeer naar de goddelijke harmonie kernthema's zijn. Het unieke satirisch-hermetische werk van Van Swaanenburg dient men te beschouwen tegen de 18de-eeuwse achtergrond van deze filosofie" (Moderne Encycl. van de Wereldliteratuur IX, p.198).

- The titles and parts of the Voyages de Gulliver and of the Nouveau Gulliver are bound out of order: vol. 1 contains part 1 and 2 of the Voyages ((4),XIX,(1),252p.); vol. 4 contains part 3 and 4 of the Voyages ((4),271,(1)p.) but the title-p. to part 3 of the Nouveau Gulliver and the htitle to part 1 of the Nouveau Gulliver and the htitle to part 2 of the Voyages; vol. 2 contains the 1st and 2nd part of the Nouveau Gulliver ((4),214p.) but the title of the 3rd part of the Voyages; vol. 3 contains the 3rd and 4th part of the Nouveau Gulliver ((4),203,(1)p.). One quire in vol.1 sl. waterst. and loosening.
= Cf. Imaginary Voyages 94 (on the edition of 1722): "(...) sequel by the French translator of Swift. The stunning succes of Desfontaines' heavily bowdlerised 1727 translation of Swift's famous novel no doubt provided the impetus to this unofficial sequel. The fiction that it was translated from an original English text is exposed in the preface, where its relationship to Gulliver's Travels is said to be akin to that of Fénélon's Aventures de Telemaque with the Odyssey. As Gove comments, this is one of the very few works to use Gulliver as a model for imitation (unlike the endless array of Robinsonades, for instance) and thus occupies an important position in the history of Swift's novel."
