5590 - 5932 FINE ARTS - 16th-19th CENTURY DRAWINGS, WATERCOLOURS and PAINTINGS
- Partly yellowed.
- Sl. foxed, mostly near left and right edge.
- Central square part discoloured (due to former framing).
- Agetoned.
- Yellowed; a few vague creases in upper right corner.
= Provenance: from the collection of J. and C. Ulmann.
- Closed hole and chip; soiled, w. (sm.) stains and w. worn spots.
= In 1986 Sotheby's Amsterdam sold a similar, but smaller, drawing with almost exactly the same composition. Part of a series of drawings made by Hendrik de Leth on a voyage along the Rhine in 1763. Later a series of prints was published by F.W. Grebe after the drawings by De Leth and engraved by the same. The print differs from the original smaller Sotheby's drawing; the print has added figures and foliage in the foreground, which are present in our larger drawing. According to the Rijksmuseum the prints were after drawings by Cornelis Ploos van Amstel, but he only created the title print of the series. From the collection of "W. Hendriks" with his annotation (and incorrect attribution to Jan Asselijn) on verso.

- Sl. stained in right margin.
= An almost exact copy after the print that Van Liender made for A. VAN BEMMEL, Beschryving der stad Amersfoort (1760), and which is titled "Gezigt van de Riviere de Eem op de Haven en beide de Koppelpoorten te Amersfoort." SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXIV.
- Small flaws. = Probably various draughst(wo)men from German/ Swiss school.
= J. Lutgens/ Lutgers was the son of P.J. Lutgers. With added photocopy of a (contemp.) list of works by J. Lutgens/ Lutgers, listing both drawing of this lot.
AND 1 other by the same: (Alpine landscape with a road along fast flowing river, a church to the right) (brush and grey wash, monogrammed "J.L. 1894 d'après [...?] J.P.L." in lower left corner).
- Trifle yellowed.
- Sl. offsetting along edges from a former passepartout. = SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXIV.
- Sl. yellowed; colours sl. faded.
- Brown offsetting from former passepartout.
- Browned. = With the ticket of the dealer Guy Stein on verso, who exhibited this piece in 1938.
- Yellowed; lacks sm. portion of paper in outer lower blank right corner; a few waterstains (mainly) outside the drawing.
- Some very vague foxing; skilfully repaired tear (5 cm.) in upper clouds margin.
= Fine drawing with nice staffage. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXV.
= The artist worked in Delft.
- Slightly yellowed; trifle foxed; outer margins trifle worn.
= Provenance: the collection of J. and C. Ulmann.
AND a contemp. anonymous ink and watercolour drawing of two shepherds under a tree in an arcadian landscape.
- Yellowed/ browned; trifle foxed; fold in lower left corner; tiny dent in left part.
- Tipped onto paper mount; yellowed; trifle waterst.
AND 3 others, all 19th/ 20th cent. drawings, i.a. of a French landscape ("Aix") and a full-length portrait of a mountaineer(?).
