Part of the curriculum of medical students was that they were expected to have studied and written about Aristotle's De anima. Conrad Gessner, who had studied medicine and was deeply interested in the human soul, wrote his De anima in this tradition. It is the fourth of the works contained in this book and is published here for the first time. "Es ist Gessners Hauptverdienst, die fünf Sinne, die Mensch und Tier gemeinsam haben, über Aristoteles hinaus in Aussehen, Potenz und Akt klassifiziert zu haben." (A.-S. Goeing, in: Gessner-Katalog Zürich, 2016, S. 50).

(Judd/ Lind p.1); "On his return from the second voyage Cook was promptly rewarded for his achievements (...). In 1776 he volunteered for his third and final voyage, with specific instructions to investigate the coasts of the north Pacific, and to settle once and for all the question of the northwest passage.
