= Very rare sample book of wall paper designs by the Austrian artist Dagobert Peche (1887-1923). Peche was first trained as an architect in Vienna, but he soon expanded his range to the decorative arts. During a visit to Great Britian he is believed to have encountered the work of Aubrey Beardsley which influenced his style at the beginning of his career. At a birthday party of the architect Otto Wagner he met Josef Hoffmann and he started to offer wall paper and textile designs to the Wiener Werkstätte (and later to other companies as well). He officially joined the Wiener Werkstätte in 1915 and became one of its key members, together with Hoffmann and Koloman Moser. Besides wall paper designs, he also designed i.a. furniture, jewelry and glass, but also contributed with graphic designs. His grand designs were influential in the upcoming art deco period and beyond. SEE ILLUSTRATION ON THE FRONTCOVER.
