= Antonina Houbraken was the daughter of Arnold Houbraken and was married to the goldsmith Jacobus Stellingwerff, and together they made numerous drawings for the antiquaries Andries and Gerrit Schoemaker and for Mattheus Brouerius van Nidek. It is estimated that Antonina made over 1000 topographical drawings. The present drawing is a rare example of her work in another field: she is known to have made several of these trompe l'oeils of portrait medallions. The present portrait is identical to the portrait made by the medalist Pieter van Abeele on occasion of the decease of Johan Wolphert van Brederode in 1655. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXXII.
