82/2118 [Comics]. Hergé. "Persil. Duizend donderkoppen! Nog even! En de hele Kuifje-club zit bij Persil/ Persil. Gratis 4 Kuifje figuurtjes. Spaar ze alle 8". Lot of 9 diff. unused and unfolded board soap boxes, each 47,5x35 cm. (unfolded), each w. large portrait of a character of the Tintin albums on the back and a Tintin illustration on front, Persil (Henkel), 1973. - WITH: 9 (of 10) colour designs and annotations on tracing paper over gelatin silver photographs of drawings for the portraits, each ±34x28 cm. - WITH a very rare promotional banner garland to promote the campaign in supermarkets and grocery stores.

= A unique collection of unused Persil soap boxes with the original colour scheme designs, used for a campaign to promote (the upcoming) "Tintin" toy figure gifts with each box of Persil. In 1973 Persil started a Tintin campaign to promote the new formula by Persil: two different flip books with Tintin characters were added to boxes and two sets of 4 toy figures each. The front is in two different variants (one announcing the gifts, the other presenting the gifts). The back side of the boxes could also be collected as a portrait gallery, with the following characters: Tintin (Kuifje), captain Haddock (not present on the boxes), professor Tournesol (Zonnebloem), Dupond brother (Janssen), Bianca Castafiore, Snowy (Bobby), Rastapopoulos, Nestor the butler, dr. Müller, Abdallah. The original drawings (of which the photographs were taken) are by the Hergé studio or Hergé himself. The colour schemes are probably by the box designers of Persil/ Henkel. Provenance: the Henkel company. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XLVI.

82 2120 Comics Hergé
82/2120 [Comics]. Hergé. "Persil. Woeha! een gratis filmboekje". Unused and unfolded box of Persil washing soap, 35x22 cm. (when unfolded), 1973. - WITH: Hergé a.o. Jansen & Jansens de beroemde detectives in "Twee in één klap". N.pl., Henkel, 1973, 24 ills., orig. wr., obl. 16mo (mint). - AND WITH an odd shaped sticker and a garland banner to promote the campaign in grocery/ drug stores and supermarkets.

= In 1973 Persil started a promotional campaign with Tintin characters. Collectibles were added to soap boxes. In 1973 a new formula was presented by the company and it coïncided with the release of the Tintin movie "Tintin et le lac aux requins" (1972, Tintin and the Lake of Sharks) made by the animation studio Belvision. Although usually the Hergé Studio was responsible for the commercial outlets of Tintin, the movie and the Henkel campaign mutually benifited each other and for that reason Belvision was probably made responsible for the drawings (albeit probably under supervision of the Hergé Studio). Two different kind of collectibles were offered: two different flip books with Tintin characters and two sets of 4 toy figures each. This is the box intended for the flip book. The flip book is still shrinkwrapped. Provenance: the Henkel company.

Idem. "Persil. "Gratis 4 Kuifje figuurtjes". Seven unused and unfolded boxes of Persil washing soap, 48x35 cm. (when unfolded), 1973.

= These are the boxes used for the campaign with the toy figurines. Each with a different Tintin character portrait on verso. Probably 10 different characters were used. The front appears in 2 variants: one announcing the figurines (on 4 boxes) and one presenting the figurines "Spaar ze alle 8" (3x).

They were used for the small flipbook, that was a giveaway in a promotional campaign for the detergent Persil (Henkel) in 1973. The campaign coïncided with the Tintin movie "Tintin et le lac aux requins" (1972, Tintin and the Lake of Sharks) made by the animation studio Belvision, owned by Raymond Leblanc (who also directed the movie). Leblanc was the director of the comic publisher Le Lombard (which published the Tintin weekly). Although usually the Hergé Studio was responsible for the commercial outlets of Tintin, the movie and the Henkel campaign mutually benifited each other and for that reason Belvision was probably made responsible for the drawings (albeit probably under supervision of the Hergé Studio).
