- A fine copy.

= Van Gulik's only crime novel not set in ancient China. Van Gulik published 4 of his crime novels privately in Kuala Lumpur where he was at the time Ambassador Extraordinary of the Netherlands. Van Gulik had first offered the scripts to his publisher Heinemann, but Heinemann refused to publish more than one of Van Gulik's titles a year. The work was not reissued in English before 1984. Rare.
