Vervattende het quartier van Oostergo (...))" was intended to be published as part of vol. III of Groot Placaat en Charterboek van Friesland, but was never published in that form. It was published later with the orig. pagination (p. 59-461) and with an introduction by S. van Leeuwen (p.1-16) and the third part, which is titled "Beneficiaal-Boeken. Bevattende het quartier van de Zevenwouden". De Buck 7242.

= On the author ("ulevellenwijsheid debiterende frisiomaan (...) een querulant met waangedachten (...) notoire carrièrist met een aristocratisch syndroom' ), cf. in extenso: K. VAN DER HOEK, Montse (de Haan) Hettema (1796-1873) in Nieuw Letterkundig Magazijn. Jaargang 14, p.7-8 (1996): "(...). Hun opponent Hettema achtte beide opvattingen een knieval voor de corrumperende werking die van het Nederlands uitgegaan was en een schending van de integriteit van een in beginsel superieure taal: Het Friesch moet met geene Hollandsche letteren en teekens, maar met deszelfs eigene en oorspronkelijke geschreven worden. Vanaf begin 1830 zou hij erop blijven hameren dat men de zo authentieke spelling, klank- en vormleer van het Oudfries diende na te volgen. Praktische bezwaren waren er niet: de uitspraak was namelijk al die eeuwen door niet noemenswaard veranderd! Hoe onzinnig ook, Hettema's opvattingen vonden weerklank in de kring van het hyperromantische tijdschrift Iduna, met als gevolg dat van de Gysbert-, de Halbertsma- en de Iduna-spelling merkwaardigerwijs de laatste twee elkaar het langst - te lang - beconcurreerden (...) Veel van wat Hettema verder publiceerde, moest zijn gelijk in dezen ondersteunen. Een titel als Beknopte handleiding, om de oude Friesche taal, voor zoo verre zij in handschriften en in oude drukken nog bestaat, gemakkelijk te lezen en te verstaan, hoofdzakelijk voor diegenen, welke eenige kennis der tegenwoordige land-Friesche taal hebben uit 1830 spreekt voor zich. (...) Voorts gaf hij, weglatend wat hij niet ontcijferen kon, de wetsteksten waarin het Oudfries overgeleverd is uit in Het Emsiger landregt (1830), Jurisprudentia Frisica (1834-'35), Het Fivelingoër en Oldampster landregt (1841) en Oude Friesche wetten (1846-'51).
