= Text comprising of Psalm 145-148. With coloured initials for every verse, and flourished initials for every psalm, the Book of Psalms is usually the most densely decorated section of a medieval Bible.
- Hinges broken, bookblock holding on cords. Binding dam; lacks clasps and catches.
= Contents: various meditations on festive and commemorative clerical days and on the days of the week as well as numerous prayers to Jesus, Mary and Saint Benedict. From the library of Alexis Antoine Christian Ferdinand de Nassau-Siegen (1673-1734) w. his bookplate and owner's annot. on upper pastedown ("l'abbé C[on]te de Nassau"). = Willem Holtrop, a Dutch publisher and police commissioner for the city of Amsterdam from 1806 until ?. The letters are mainly addressed to him in this capacity or as mason. Written by L.H. Ameshoff (1781-1842); W. Broes (1766-1853); A.Ph. van der Capellen (1745-1787); G.G. Clifford (1779-1847); D.W. Elias (1758-1828); mayor of Amsterdam; J. Teissèdre L'Ange (1771-1853); E.C. Bondt (1771-1850); M.L. van Hangest Genlis, Baron d'Yvoy van Mijdrecht (1753-1831) (masonic letters); C.J.G. Copes van Hasselt (1777-1860) (masonic letters); C.A.F. Rasse, Prince De Gavre (1759-1832) (masonic letter); C.J. Wenckenbach (1765-1850).

= With an autograph SIGNED DEDICATION on 2nd leaf of the first volume to "H:L. van Linden van den Heuvell; lid der Provinciale Staten van Zuidholland. Burgemeester der Stad Vlaardingen (...)". (Van Linden van den Heuvell was mayor between 1813 and 1850). The articles and essays are dated between 8 Jan. 1829 to 27 Maart 1835.
Kikkert is known to have been a drawingmaster at Leyden in 1798; later on he lived at Schiedam. The present vols. contain a series of articles, memoirs, casual essays and amusing pieces to be read at gatherings. Some titles: "De Bezem" (w. two small watercolours) (also on witchcraft in the Netherlands) ; "De Gevangenis" (on his incarceration in 1811); "Myn vijftigste Jaardag" (some reflections on the last 50 years and his own personal achievements, i.a. the award of a prize from Teylers Genootschap and his writing on the pseudonym of Petrus Dathenús), "Wandeling van 's Hage naar Scheveningen"; "Wandeling by Vlaardingen" (with a fold. watercolour plan of a part of Vlaardingen); "De Strijd tusschen het Vleesch en de Geest", "De politike toestand van Europa"; "Nooten zonder Text"; "Over het schoone"; "Geld, mode en liefde"; and "Schim [van het schuitpaard]". Also laudatory pieces on the founder of the Maatschappij tot Nut van t Algemeen the baptist reverend Jan Nieuwenhuyzen with references to and on matchsticks ("zwavelstokjes") (with a drawing, a portrait of Nieuwenhuyzen and small drawing of matchsticks) and various pieces/ poems on the cigar (w. a small watercolour).
= AUTOGRAPH SIGNED DECLARATION by Jacob van Lennep, stating that an annuity of 5.100 pounds sterling and 1.000 pounds sterling worth of shares in the "Zuid Zee Compagnie" (possibly a whaling company) should be considered the private property of his eldest son David Jacob van Lennep as the head of the association with his younger brother Maurits Jacob, granting him full right of disposal of the capital and any interest involved and denouncing any rights to ownership or reimbursement.
WITH a lithograph portrait of the same by J.B. CLERMANS (±1830).
= Granting permission to "J. van Dael, Kunstschilder te Parijs", to pass military posts in order to return to Middelburg to serve in the army. Hendrik Merkus, Baron de Kock was a Dutch military officer, colonial administrator and politician who served as lieutenant governor-general of the Dutch East Indies from 1826 to 1830. He also served as Minister of the Interior from 1836 to 1841.
WITH a cut out signature by the same. - ADDED: a small piece of a ms. signed by COENRAAD VAN VALKENBURG (1784-1831) and a ms. document signed by LAURENS PIETER VAN DE SPIEGEL (1737-1800).
= Thanking Veth for the fact that the board of the Rembrandthuis have decided to present Quack with an etching by Rembrandt ["(...) In mijn uit de aard der zaak min of meer nog kortstondig leven zal die ets voor ons een droom van liefde zijn (...)"] and sending Veth in return a copy of the second edition his memoirs, with a dedication.

AND another short AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED by and to the same ("Zeer waarde doctor"), dated "van huis 18 October 1915", sending him a photogr. picture postcard of a painting by Rembrandt (included).
= Cornelis van der Vijver, a Dutch author and historian writing mainly about the history of Amsterdam. His most famous work is Wandelingen in en om Amsterdam. The letters were written by W. Holtrop (1751-1835) (on the death of his youngest child); J. Koning (1770-1832) (4 letters thanking for sending texts and a book); mayor of Amsterdam F. van de Poll (1780-1853) (3 letters thanking him and commenting on his historical texts on Amsterdam); S.P. Lipman (1802-1872) (2 letters, thanking him and asking for a meeting); J.C. Rijk (1787-1854) (a letter by fellow mason thanking him for sending the masonic almanac) ; G.W. Verweij Mejan (1797-1850) (fellow mason, 3 letters thanking him for sending publications); J. van Wijk Roelandszoon (1781-1847) (3 letters asking him for information and texts).
ADDED: a letter of condolence by singer Catharina Brouwer, married to Jan Steven van Esveldt Holtrop, to unidentified recipients.
= Maurits Willem Raedinck van Vollenhoven, Dutch diplomat. Mainly on the publishing of his memoirs. "(...) Het boek is, naar ik hoor eindelijk verschenen. Ik heb nog geen ex ontvangen en zag het dus nog niet. Zoudt gij nu de groote vriendelijkheid willen hebben, zooals gij mij dat hebt toegezegd er een aanbevelend woord over te schrijven in uw Limburgsche Courant? Dat zou zeker helpen bij den verkoop. Het boek beteekent voor mij deviezen (...)" [20/10/1946]. "(...) In eenzelfde telegram berichtte mij Elsevier, dat het verschenen en vrijwel uitverkocht was. Ik kan echter het succes niet uitbuiten omdat er geen papier is voor een herdruk! (...)" [29/12/1946]. "(...) Ik hoor dat er waarschijnlijk een herdruk van mijn mémoires op komst is, maar uitgevers zijn vervelende menschen, die maar amper antwoorden op tot hen gerichte brieven. Zij geven liever nieuwe boeken uit, dan dat zij herdrukken. Dat is meer reclame (...)" [14/03/1947].
