- Sl. soiled and worn; small hole in left margin.
= Inez van Dullemen: "Over de grond verspreid in de onttakelde kamer liggen mijn moeders portretten door Isaac Israels geschilderd. Vijfvoudig staart ze mij aan van de vloer: wulps met ontblote schouder, hooghartig ongenaakbaar met fijne beringde vingers op een boek ( ..) moederlijk met een kind in de armen, fragiel in een boomgaardje: de jonge romanciere, en ten slotte een door de tijd aangetaste tekening.. .' = With on verso the central part of a large pen and black ink drawing, showing a fisherman and a mill in a Dutch village. The Amsterdam city archive holds a drawing with the exact same composition. Perhaps copied by the artist himself.
- Sl. foxed and yellowed.

= Willem Frederik Wehmeyer made an engraving with a very similar composition, probably after this drawing (or related painting) (cf. the copy in the Rijksmuseum, RP-P-1938-1229).
