- Paper remnants of former mount in corners and along edges on verso.

= The pieces of paper are quite thick paper, perhaps late 17th century. With a very doubtful attribution to Claude Lorrain in pencil on verso.

- Somewhat browned and duststained; tipped onto mount.

= Perhaps surrroundings of Simon Vouet. On laid paper with foolscap watermark. From the collection of C.P. van Eeghen (1880-1968) with his collector's mark (Lugt 6016) on verso, by descent to the present owners.

84/5084 Anonymous (17th cent.). (Ships in problems in a heavy storm). Drawing, pen and brush and brown ink, 18,5x25,3 cm.

- Foxed; tipped onto a 17th/ 18th cent. mount, which in turn is tipped to a later 19th cent. mount, w. sm. creases in the corners.

= With an annotation in French on verso of the later 19th cent. mount, linking this drawing to Claude Lorrain. The drawing is reminiscent of his compositions of ships in heavy storms. With an unidentified collector's mark on the mount (not found in Lugt) showing a lyre.

84/5086 Anonymous (2nd half 17th cent., Flemish school). (Design for a trompe l'oeil painting with statue gallery leading to a garden). Drawing, red chalk, brush and brown ink, black ink and brown wash, 27,8x34,5 cm.

- Leaf somewhat dustsoiled; sl. stained in upper part, mostly visible on verso.

= On laid paper with Grapes watermark. With the collector's mark of Lodewijk Houthakker in lower right corner on recto. Provenance: B. Weinreb, Houthakker and present owner. Fuhring, Design into art. (...) The Lodewijk Houthakker Collection, no. 261 ("formerly attributed to Theodoor van Thulden"). The arched opening with the herms on either side and the double ionic columns is associated with the designs Rubens made for his Antwerp house. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XCVIII.

- Cut sl. short; lacks some sm. portions of paper along margins; horizontal fold; sl. yellowed.

= With the collector's mark of Robert Sutton (Lugt 2327a) on verso and the collector's blindstamp of Cornelius Ver Heyden de Lancey (Lugt 2701a).

= Tipped on early 19th cent. paper (D&C Blaauw watermark). On thin laid paper with a watermark showing a rampant lion(?) 'holding' a sword and a small crescent moon(?) above. Perhaps from the early 18th century, the small watchtower with gate over the bridge that was still standing in the 17th century is not depicted.
