Large miniature, 8,5x6 cm., in colours and gold on vellum within ornamental border in colours and gold on three sides, total size 13,3x8,2 cm., on recto of a leaf from a Book of Hours, Northern France, probably Paris, first half 15th cent., Latin text in black ink, littera textualis, 16,9x12,5 cm. (leaf), 2x6 cm. (text), 4/ 7 lines, one 3-line initial in burnished gold, red and blue with white details, three 1-line dentelle initials, two line-fillers, 3/4 border of leaves and flowers in colours and gold, marginal standard penwork, framed w. both sides visible.

= Contains the beginning of the compline prayer of the Hours of the Virgin. Beautiful coloured miniature in which the Virgin kneels before the enthroned God the Father. The crown, given to her by the Angel standing behind her, is already placed on her head. The rich decorative program suggests the commissioning party was of very high and wealthy rank.
