= According to an annotation on verso of mount, the verso of the drawing has a note (obscured by mount) stating that this is a design for a dessus-de-porte in the house located on Herengracht 478, Amsterdam, made for Mr Jonas Witsen. However, none of the properties listed as being owned by Jonas Witsen was located on this address and we have found no link to designs by Jacob de Wit for this address. But there is a strong link between Jacob de Wit and several other grand houses on the Keizersgracht and the Herengracht that were owned by various members of the Witsen family: De Wit designed wallpanels and ceiling paintings for these houses.
