76 5942 Caricature Monogrammist 'G F H ' early 20th cent
76/5942 [Caricature]. Monogrammist "G.F.H." (early 20th cent.). "The Telephone. Central Africa - London". Drawing, pen and black ink and watercolour, 13,7x20 cm., monogrammed in lower right corner.

= Nice cartoon, expressing the futuristic idea that a long distance connection by telephone could be created between the UK and Africa. The conversation between on the one hand a native African servant holding the phone for his master (who is lying in a hammock surrounded by mosquitos) and on the other hand an Englishman sleeping in London results in the complaint from Africa that his master cannot sleep because of the loud snoring of the Englishman's wife and the Englishman complaining that he cannot hear anything because of the noise that the mosquitos make. Monogrammist not traced.
