76/5789 [Wreaths]. ('De Trap des Levens'). Handcol. pictorial engraved border on a decorated wishing sheet, 41x33 cm., Amst., Wed. J. Ratelband and J. Bouwer, ±1800, numb. "No.18" in upper right corner.

- Folded twice (some wear at intersection of folds); right margin frayed; vague yellowed spots in lower margin; sl. creased along horizontal middle fold.

= Buijnsters-Smets p.63 (w. ill. on p.64): "Afwisselend zijn hier in een rococo-omkadering een man en een vrouw afgebeeld, in totaal negen personen. (...) De krans toont nu in het midden de symbolen van de dood: zeis, doodshoofd en dorre tak. Onderaan loopt een rouwstoet achter de met zwarte doeken beklede kist in de richting van het lijkenhuis." Contents: a calligraphed wish by Wm. Yserman to his grandmother that she may receive "de keur van 's Hemels zegeningen (...) in ruime maate".

(Wreath with scenes of showing outdoor entertainment). "Waarde Broeder en Zuster". Handcol. engr. floral border, w. 4 different scenes in the corners (clockwise from upper left corner: a couple in a romantic setting; a couple making music; children playing outdoor games; 3 couples having lunch under a canopy), surrounding a nicely calligraphed wish in the form of an acrostichon reading "B.J. Meester Muijs[?]", dated "29 Maart 1739" (folded, otherwise fine). - AND 1 other handcol. engr. wreath: a New Year wish publ. Amst., Wed. J. Ratelband and J. Bouwer, dated "1810" in the manuscript wish (this copy numb. "No.10" in upper right corner and surrounded by a border showing scenes from a fair, i.a. a celebrating group of soldiers, people in a "koekkraam" (tuck shop) and a woman peddling her wares) (sl. creased on old folds. See Buijnsters-Smets p.148 (w. ill.)).
