After working for several international art galleries in Paris and London, Zürcher found employment in 1895 at the art gallery Frans Buffa & Zonen and became a partner with Jacobus Slagmulder. In 1901 he started to exploit the new Buffa Gallery in The Hague, Noordeinde 33. After Slagmulder and Zürcher ended their collaboration in 1904, Zürcher stayed in The Hague where he founded his own art gallery P.J. Zürcher. In ca. 1911 he moved the gallery to the "Villa Erica" at the Scheveningscheweg 25. In January 1913, P.J. Zürcher, his brother L.A. Zürcher and broker J. Lobatto developed plans to build a business hotel-café-restaurant on the Dam in Amsterdam. Several designs were made by Willem Kromhout, the architect of the Hotel Americain that was built on the Leidseplein in 1902. After the rejection of several of Kromhout's designs by a committee of the Amsterdam city council, a design was finally approved. Problems with the financing and the outbreak of the First World War ended the further development of the buildng project and meant the bankruptcy of Zürcher.
