= From 1697 to 1701, Mattheus Schenkenberg was the commander of the old Portugese fort on Ceylon, that was conquered by the Dutch in 1658. In this letter Schenkenberg refers to all his previous governmental servitudes to the VOC and he wishes to get compensated as befits a commander of his stature.
