78/6201 [Botany]. Heyl (2nd half 19th cent.). Collection of 69 drawings of plants on 50 fold. leaves, watercolour w. pencil underdrawing, all plants identified below in Latin in pen and ink and in Dutch and Latin on frontcover of each folded leaf, almost all 24,5x18 cm., (Utr., ±1875-1877), loosely inserted in modern green cl. box w. mounted letterpress title-piece on cover. - WITH: 36 autograph notes (in Dutch) signed ("Heyl") in pen and ink by the artist concerning several of the plants that he has drawn, dated between "4 october [18]77" and "5 Juli [18]84", w. remarks about the characteristics of the plants and their distribution (specifically mentioning locations in (the surroundings) of Utrecht).

= Very accomplished and detailed drawings of plants found in Utrecht and surroundings, often with finding places. No specific Dutch botanical artist named "Heyl" could be traced by us, the only possible contender would be landscape painter/ draughtsman "Marinus Heyl" (1836-1931), but no botanical drawings by his hand could be traced, and no reference is made to any activity of M. Heyl in Utrecht on the RKD website. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CVI.
